Fashion Photography is a genre of photography devoted to displaying clothing and other fashion items. Fashion photography is most often conducted for advertisements or fashion magazines such as Vogue, Vanity Fair, or Allure. Over time, fashion photography has developed its own aesthetic in which the clothes and fashions are enhanced by exotic locations and story lines or could be having great models with different vehicles or animals just to be an eye catching effect.

Working in fashion photography, you will represent fashion designers' work to the public. You'll create the visual story that sparks interest in new styles and trends.
As a fashion photographer, you may be self-employed or do freelance work. You may also find employment opportunities with magazines or clothing retailers.

Fashion photography is an art and you want to make sure that the photographer knows what they are doing and what is expected commercially.


A portfolio is a models strongest marketing tool.

Your portfolio is very important. It must be up to the minute with style, clothes and make-up. The fashion photography model's portfolio must be updated regularly, especially when a model is still a teenager as they are changing so rapidly.

Find a photographer in your area who has done fashion model portfolio training! It goes without saying that your photographer will know how to take good pictures but it is the way that the photos have been styled that counts.
